Carbon Nanotubes in perfection!

Throughout his inimitable professional career, Boris Becker provided a new impetus for tennis through his powerful style of play. Now, with his new tennis brand, he is playing a decisive role in promoting the development and construction of innovative rackets. The power material DNX was just the first step here. BORIS BECKER TENNIS is now launching two further development stages at once: the innovative material DELTACORE and the novel DOUBLERAIL design!

On the basis of their wealth of experience with DNX, our engineers have intensified their cooperation with the renowned Fraunhofer Institute and have developed DELTACORE, a revolutionary carbon fibre material which offers a previously unequalled combination of stability and shock absorption. Research at molecular level has enabled the concept of the high-strength CARBON NANOTUBES to be further optimised and tailored even more precisely to the specific requirements for tennis.

Three comfort-oriented DELTACORE rackets will celebrate their premiere in the new season, all of them in the new DOUBLERAIL design.

20. 02. 2008 BECKER 11 Mid - A true Pro's racquet

The BECKER 11 Mid (93in2/600cm2) is engineered for the most accomplished player. This flexible mid size racquet is designed to maximize the feel for the ball and hence support control. Due to its open 16x19 string-pattern, the BECKER 11 Mid generates great top spin and plays more forgiving than your traditional mid size racquets. The DNX reinforced areas in the racquet head (3 & 9 o’clock) and above the grip, add stability on off-center shots and assist in generating additional power. It will convince the accomplished players with its flexible frame construction for maximum control, while the DNX enhanced areas generate additional power.

This unique combination of stronger and more flexible sections within this flexible frame gives the player an unsurpassed performance feeling. With an unstrung weight of 330g/11.5oz the BECKER 11 Mid is the heaviest racquet in the collection, but with a head-light balance (31cm/1.3inHL) and a low swing-weight, it remains very maneuverable for an easy handling.

17. 02. 2008 BECKER PRO ATTIVA - Perfect power for the modern female tennis player

The second new racquet introduction of the season is the BECKER PRO ATTIVA. Designed with all the power enhancing features of the BECKER PRO, but fine-tuned to the specific needs of the modern female tennis player. The BECKER PRO ATTIVA features the ATTIVA concept which is the women-specific technology package. ATTIVA was developed with the specific focus being those anatomical differences between men and women. This racquet concept is gender-focused - engineered with specific technologies only found in the ATTIVA racquets. The ambitious, serious female tennis players will benefit due to the three unique properties:

1. Optimized weight and balance - for an lighter swing-weight

2. Rounder and softer Grip anatomy - to better fit the female palm

3. Sensor Plus Handle System - for superior dampening features

The BECKER PRO ATTIVA is designed for the ambitious female player, that looks for a racquet to generate additional power, but also look for a maneuverable frame and forgiving. Along with the open string-pattern and the 645cm2/100in2 head-size, the BECKER PRO ATTIVA was developed with and for top ranked players. The overall unstrung weight of 9.5oz/270g is an ounce (25g) lighter than the BECKER PRO, and hence ensures a more maneuverable handing.Just ask former top ranked junior player Dominika Cibulkova from Slovakia; she has switched to the new BECKER PRO ATTIVA and will continue to raise the level of her game on the WTA Tour this season...

12. 02. 2008 The new racquets are finally here

Boris Becker Tennis is proud to present the newest racquets for the Spring 2008 season, introducing three new racquets for serious players: BECKER PRO, BECKER PRO ATTIVA & BECKER 11 Mid.

Today, we will be introducing the new BECKER PRO. The BECKER PRO features a stiffer frame construction and therefore is focused on generating additional POWER. It is destined for players who are looking for extra speed and want to transfer more spin to the ball. The evenly balanced BECKER PRO has a MidPlus head-size of 100in2/645cm2 with a 23mm beam. This firm frame construction in combination with the unstrung weight of 10.4oz/295g is designed to provide players with optimal feel for accurate ball-placement and an open string pattern for precise spin potential.

We are also happy to announce that the number one ranked junior in the World Ricardas Berankis from Lithuania has switched to the new BECKER PRO and will be competing in his first full year on ATP Tour this season. Watch out for Ricardas, bound to turn more heads in the future.

Stay tuned for more information on the other two new BORIS BECKER TENNIS introduction this Spring.

14. 01. 2008 Jamie Baker qualifies for the main draw of the Australian Open!

Jamie Baker reached the main draw of the Australian Open after defeating Daniel Koellerer 6-4 6-4 in his final qualifying match in Melbourne. The British number three kept cool despite some gamesmanship from the Austrian to book his Melbourne berth.

"I'm delighted - it is a huge step in my career to do that as I have beaten three really good players to qualify," said the 21-year-old Scot. Baker faces big-serving Croatian 20th seed Ivo Karlovic in the first round. He showed his maturity as Koellerer tried to put him off his stride in their match. Koellerer hit an under-arm serve in the fifth game of the first set, and took an injury time-out when Baker was one point away from a crucial break in the second.

But Baker knew what to expect having spoken to several players in the locker room about the Austrian's tactics. "It was difficult, but I was expecting it as the players told me in the locker room how he tries to bend the rules," he said. "The best way for me to go about it was not to give him any energy and focus on my game."

Jamie wears Boris Becker Tennis apparel and plays with the new Becker 11. Look out for Jamie this season, as he looks to improve his ranking and reach a spot in the top 100. Good job Jamie, keep up the great work.

11. 01. 2008 Ricardas Berankis changes racquets

The No. 1 junior tennis player in the world Ricardas Berankis from Lithuania will start the 2008 season with a new racquet. Ricardas has been playing with the DNX 8 from Völkl Tennis for the last 2 years and has now decided to switch to the new BECKER PRO by Boris Becker Tennis.

"Today's tennis game is all about Power. It is so fast, so you need the right equipment to compete. Power is what I look for in a racquet. This new BECKER PRO definitely gives me what I need with-out loosing the control. I can feel how the racquet generates more speed. I like it!"

Ricardas made Lithuanian tennis history in 2007 when he became the first player from his country to win the junior US Open Title in September. But that was not the only title for him last year. He also won the junior world championships and needed to win his final two tournaments of the year to finish the season on top. Berankis did just that - winning the Orange Bowl and the Yucatan Cup in Mexico - to capture the season's junior world title.

Look out for Ricardas and his new BECKER PRO in 2008, bound to turn some heads. The new BECKER PRO will be in selected Tennis Pro Shops around the world February 1st.

19. 12. 2007 BECKER V1 a clear winner

In the Jan/Feb 2008 issue of the German Tennis Magazine, 19 racquets from all manufacturers in the category "Tweener-Power-Racquets" were tested. Competing against HEAD's new Metalix 2&4, PRINCE's O3 Zone Four & Speed Port Silver, and Wilson's K Four, the BECKER V1 proved to be a clear winner.

The BECKER V1 continues to feature the characteristics that have made this model an icon in the tennis industry. The 4 areas of Big Grommets along with the variable high beam frame construction have always been unique trademark elements. With the highest ratings in Power and Comfort the new BECKER V1 continues the long tradition of superior performance characteristics of the V1. It has long been known to be a synonym for comfort and the newest creation, BECKER V1 is no different.

The interaction of two dampening technologies (SENSOR PLUS SHAFT and SENSOR PLUS GRIP DAMPENING) make this model one of the easiest racquets on the arm.

Here are a few quotes from the test:

"The BECKER V1 has everything a light-weight "tweener" needs: Power, Comfort and an easy handling."

"The additional dampening features in the shaft and in the handle, not only absorb the harmful vibrations very well, but they still enable a great feel for the ball."

"The BECKER V1 is our Test-winner, because despite all the Power that the racquet generates, it is still very maneuverable and has great control!"

A great review with the perfect test result. Introducing the BECKER V1: Power, Comfort and Control, all wrapped into one racquet.

12. 12. 2007 Benjamin Becker and Jamie Baker check out SIGNATURE LINE

Long before the new 2008 BORIS BECKER TENNIS apparel collection SIGNATURE LINE is available in stores around the world, two of our sponsored players got their first glimpse of the new Polos and Shorts. Jamie Baker (UK) and Benjamin Becker (GER) were both in Fort Lauderdale, Florida over the weekend for a photo-shoot with new SIGNATURE LINE.

"Wow, this is sweet," were Benjamin Becker's first words when the collection was first presented to him. Jamie Baker added: "I especially like the orange, it matches the color of my Becker 11. Great combination for next year."

The SIGNATURE LINE collection is scheduled to hit tennis shops in March 2008, but both players will already start to promote the range at the 2008 Australian Open.

Benjamin Becker: "Last season I wore the black & white TEAM collection and the polo shirt with the pinstripes was my favorite. It is great to see that we are continuing to use the pinstripe design next season, only this time with some fresh colors. I like it a lot, I am sure that the orange we will turn some heads next year!"

"It's not only the design and style of the clothes that is important for me," said Jamie Baker. "Almost more important are the fabrics, materials and cut of the shirts. This COOL FIT material is perfect for match play. Not only does it absorb the sweat very well, but it is also so comfortable. It feels good wearing it and the cut gives me enough room to move in."

Thomas Römpke, the Boris Becker Tennis Product Manager was also in attendance that day in Fort Lauderdale and coordinated the event. He could tell that both players enjoyed themselves on court during the shoot: "Both Benjamin and Jamie are real professionals. I think we got some great pictures of them in the new apparel. 26. 09. 2007 Play-testing Prototypes in Barcelona

Before a new tennis racquet is introduced to the market, many months of play-testing are necessary to achieve the desired playability. For our R&D department this stage is a critical part in the development process of new frames. “Some racquets need more testing than others, that for sure,” says Product Manager Thomas Roempke. “One of the most important aspects though, is that the racquets are tested by the target market. When we were developing the Becker 11 last year for example, we made sure players that usually play with a thin beam, flexible frame & prefer a dense 18x20 string pattern, did most of the testing. It would not make sense to have let beginners test this frame, as they would not be able to make the necessary judgments.”This year a play-test took place in Barcelona, Spain at the “Barcelona Total Tennis Academy” (BTT) with Head Coach and part owner Jordi Vilaro. “The Academy has been a Völkl Tennis partner for the last 4 years,” says Jordi.  BTT has always been an integral part of testing the newest tournament level racquets, such as the Tour Series and the newest DNX models, like the DNX 10s, the DNX 9 and especially the DNX 8.This year, the Engineers and the Product Manager brought their newest creation to the BTT courts. “The BTT Academy is the ideal location to test our new player’s sticks,” says Thomas Roempke. “There are so many pros here and along with their coaches we can get a lot of helpful feedback that is used to fine-tune the racquet in a rather short time.” On the agenda in Barcelona was the testing of the newest player’s racquet in the BORIS BECKER TENNIS Collection, which is scheduled to be introduced in 2008. “These guys are the ideal play-testers, their extreme topspin and powerful ground-strokes represent the new tennis playing generation. This is the target market for our newest racquet innovation. That’s why it is so important to hear what they think of our newest development. Who better to ask than the pros themselves,” says Lars Keller the Player Service Manager.

Jordi Vilaro has been an integral part of the play-testing procedures in recent years. His academy with top ranked juniors and ATP players has been a partner of Völkl Tennis and Boris Becker Tennis for the last 4 years.

One of the players at the BTT Academy is Tomeo Salva. Tomeu has been playing with the BB7 in recent months and most noticeably has been the doubles partner of Rafael Nadal in several ATP tournaments this year. “Tomeu is the prime candidate for this new Boris Becker Tennis racquet. His game is based on great top-spin, a big forehand and great footwork. He is looking for a racquet that delivers a lot of power. This new frame is definitely going in the right direction,” says the Völkl/BB Tennis Sales Manager Emilio Falcetto in Spain.

Here is Tomeo Salva on court, testing the new frames. “One of the most important things when testing new racquets, is that the frames need to be identical to what the player is used to playing with!

"Especially the 295g version was turning some heads! We kept hearing how maneuverable and fast it felt, while swinging it through the air."The Becker 11 was developed in collaboration with Boris and it took the Engineers and Product Management Team nearly 18 months to complete his newest racquet. In numerous play-tests, Boris fine-tuned the playability to his performance standards. The result is a true BECKER: a flexible tournament player's frame with added stability features thanks to the DNX material with the goal to enhances ball acceleration.
